DJ Flight is one of the most influential figures in Drum & Bass, both as a DJ and a radio presenter. She has been at the forefront of the scene’s transitional periods by championing underground music and eclectic producers; and draws attention from beyond the genre due to her exquisite live sets that have a distinct narrative, emanating deeper shades of Drum & Bass.
Flight is known worldwide thanks to her seminal radio show – The Next Chapter – on BBC 1Xtra, a weekly fixture that quickly became The Holy Grail for discovering new styles and experimental sounds.
Flight’s first big break came when Kemistry & Storm gave her mixtape to Goldie, which led to residencies at Metalheadz and Swerve. Flight went on to produce tunes with Breakage and release music on 31, Critical, and Bassbin; also with Craggz & Parallel Forces (aka Battery) on Product. In 2005, she started her own label, Play:Musik which launched the career of Martyn.
Flight has played Drum & Bass and More Styles sets at clubs and festivals across Europe, Japan, USA and Canada. Most recently, she played five nights of Calibre’s XOYO residency in London, a sold out highlight of the summer. This, along with the co-founding of EQ50 – a collective of women addressing inequality and representation in dance music – earned Flight a DJ Mag Best of British award nomination.
DJ Flight is also a producer for the Prison Radio Association, a multi award-winning charity which runs the world’s only national station for prisoners, and aims to reduce reoffending through the power of radio.
